Northumbria in Bloom

Each year, Waldridge Parish invites the judges from Northumbria In Bloom to take a look at how wonderful the gardens, flower beds and our parish in full bloom looks.

Northumbria in Bloom is the voluntary regional organisation that administers the Britain in Bloom competition in Northumberland, Durham, Tyne & Wear and Teesside.

Eileen Burn, Chairmen of Northumbria In Bloom says

“Taking part in the competition is a rewarding experience, which improves the environment for local residents, encourages tourism and businesses to come to our region, and develops community spirit and a pride in the local environment.

Participation in the Northumbria in Bloom competition has improved the appearance of many places enormously, and this has been remarked upon by residents and visitors alike. Winners of the national competition have benefitted from the increase in local awareness and tourism.”

As you may know, Waldridge Parish take part in the ‘Northumbria in Bloom’ awards.  It’s something we’ve done for many years in fact, and we have a very steady and proudwourthy record.

This year we received Silver Gilt in the ‘Small Town’ category, which is something we’re very proud of.

Sharing plants

This year we are planting two sustainable beds, which will look beautiful.  We are hoping to expand on this next year.  If you have any plants that we could take cuttings of, or plants that you have grown and would like to donate.  Please contact the Clerk to arrange collection.
